I accomplished what I needed to. [ Sort of. She did find Riteior. ] I'm dealing with a separate issue now but there's less wear with that. It'll be over by the end of this month. Coldblood shit.
[ Thank you for being polite. She'd have bitched at him if he told her the truth.
He'll get an image of a carefully hand-drawn map. The directions are detailed and begin at the Crenshaw lamp and end at a surprisingly accurate sketch of her cottage along with tiny depictions of her and her mother above it framing the words OUR HOUSE. It will never really be just her house. ]
I'll be here in an hour. You can show up any time after that.
[Chrollo arrives about fifteen minutes after Sharon gets home, and knocks on the door. He hasn't brought anything unusual with him except the machete he uses to get through the frequent overgrowth]
[ Sharon had only just barely slipped her boots off when the knock comes and quickly pads her way to the door, swinging it open and letting him before leading him into the living room. It's a comfortable room and well furnished with a pair of couches that face one another and a glass table between them. The fireplace on one side of the room is unlit and there's a painting of a rose hung up above it, Sharon's signature in the lower corner.
She drops down onto one of the couches, pulling her legs up beneath her. There's a visible pep to her right now despite the bags beneath her eyes. ]
I'll be sure to tell her if she ever comes back. [ Sharon doesn't take credit for a single thing about the house. If it had just been her, she'd never have chosen something like this. She had no real concept of what a home should feel like, too used to the crumbling, worn places she and her dad could afford. ]
How much space? What will you be doing? [ There were very few rooms with much space. The upstairs sitting room might work depending on what's required. The couch would be easy to move. If not, there was always heading back outside, as much as she'd rather not do that. ]
Enough room to fall in any direction and not hit furniture will be enough.
The exercise you need to learn to contain your aura is called ten. Before I awaken you, I'm going to demonstrate another exercise called ren, which has a side effect on anyone nearby who isn't protected with ten. It will make it easier to understand ten when you see why it's necessary.
[Mindset is important in nen, and a little added context and motivation doesn't hurt.]
[ Truthfully, Sharon doesn't much care for the idea of fainting in front of anyone, let alone Chrollo, but she still nods stiffly. ]
We'll go upstairs then. [ They could stay in the living room but Sharon doesn't really feel like shoving all the furniture to the corners. Way more effort than it's worth. She leads him upstairs as she responds next. ] So, if ten is about containment, I'm guessing ren is about pushing it outward and affecting those nearby.
[ She gets it. It's not exactly a foreign concept. ]
Close. Ten is about condensing and containing the aura you produce, Ren increases the volume of aura, which naturally means it has more outward pressure.
[Chrollo follows along, he has no complaint about whether or not they move furniture.]
[ The sitting room divides the upper floor between the two bedrooms, the doors on either side each open a crack. One room is dark, heavily curtained, and visibly a mess, with clothes in piles. The other is bathed in natural light, and the floor is spotless. It's obvious which is Sharon's. She quickly gets to sliding the small coffee table to one wall and then shoves the matching couch to the opposite one, leaving them with a large, rectangular carpeted space. ]
Well... [ She claps her hands together. ] Ren away then. [ She's not sure what to prepare for. Aura has got to feel weird, right? Maybe uncomfortable. ]
[Chrollo takes a position where he's not standing too close to anything.]
Sharon.
[Chrollo starts to speak, and the atmosphere in the room shifts between one word and the next. He holds back, but the nearby furniture and windows still rattle slightly. More dramatic is the overwhelming bloodlust that fills the room. It's a thick and suffocating pressure, carrying Chrollo's desire to kill Sharon and the absolute certainty that she can't stop him.
It presses at that instinct all living things have to survive, to make it scream for fleeing or freezing in place.]
Try not to panic.
[It's only a few seconds, but nen used like that can make the perception of time draw out for people on the receiving end. The hostility vanishes and the slight rattling caused by Chrollo's ren dissipates]
[ Despite the fact Sharon tried to mentally prepare herself for this, the feeling that washes over her makes every muscle in her body tense up, lungs freezing in her chest. He tells her to try not to panic but when she opens her mouth to shoot some biting retort at him, she can't manage the words, mind emptying of anything but an animalistic fear.
And, yet, some small part of her wants to lash out in return. Her expression twists, an angry frown settling onto her face, jaw clenched.
The moment it begins to fade, she sucks in a very sudden breath. She hadn't even realized she'd been holding it. It takes her several breaths before finds she's able to speak again. ] That was fucking awful. Is that how you actually feel? Or is that just how it is?
Hostile emotions are easier to put into your aura, I could do ren while completely calm, but it wouldn't get the point across. Milder emotions and desires to attack without harming can generate bloodlust as well, it's difficult to stop entirely when you're attacking someone.
Makes sense. [ A pause and then: ] Don't do that to me again. It made me want to burn you alive. [ There's no anger or blame in her tone. She understands why he chose to show it to her that way but fear can take her down two different paths and rage is the worst one. ]
Might also trigger corruption. [ That's said more thoughtfully. It's something to consider and may be useful in the future. ]
It can cause irreparable damage to the body or mind. Don't use nen against anyone you don't plan to kill unless they can protect themselves from ren.
I'll have to do it at least once more. When your ten protects you, you've mastered the basics of that exercise. You'll be able to tell what I'm feeling, but it won't overwhelm.
When you're ready, remove as many layers as you feel comfortable with and face away from me.
Got it. Nen's a weapon, not a toy. [ Her head tilts left and right with each word of the phrase, a certain easiness to them. Her dad said the same kind of thing about the gun when he was teaching her. "Don't point this at anyone unless you're prepared to kill them."
She nods when he tells her he'll have to do it once more and narrows her eyes at him when he tells her to remove layers but she doesn't say anything. She rolls her eyes as she turns to face away from him, removing her outerwear and then pulling the white blouse over her head to reveal a loose-fitting tank top. ] Don't like that I have to face away. [ She grumbles more to herself than to him. ]

It's a lovely home.
We'll need a little more open space when you're ready to begin.
